I’m currently crushing on sewing. It’s a hobby that has had much love but very little action around these parts over the last few years. Having a toddler in the house isn’t particularly conducive to having scissors and sharp pins around. Let alone actually getting five minutes of peace to concentrate on anything.
With the recent spotlight on exploitation of garment workers overseas, buying cheap clothes for myself and my kids doesn’t feel right. Sewing at least some of our own clothes is a small thing I can do to make a more informed decision.
As is characteristic of my perfectionist/multipotentialite tendencies, I have been reading loads about sewing, which has led me to discover a plethora of new blogs. And apparently, in sewing-blogland this week has been declared Kid’s Clothes Week.
The idea is to spend at least an hour sewing for your kids each day.
I didn’t start well – yesterday was a bit of a write off as we were super busy and I was out knocking people over at derby last night.
BUT. This has happened.
I have never been a knitter. Never been any good at it. Too impatient.
But something clicked this week, and I am knitting my heart out (amongst a few other projects).
It’s not exactly sewing, but it is a cardi for my littlest. Or at least, I hope it will be if I can have the perseverance to finish it.
I also have fabric drying to make a cute little hoodie vest and thrifted t-shirts to transform into boy’s tops.
Wish me luck – I’m about to go and bury myself in yarn and fabric again!
P.S. I’m going to extend the Smart Trike 4-in-1 Dream giveaway until the end of the week to give you a little more time to get your entries in. Don’t forget to tell your friends!
